Things I never knew about life until I lived in Birmingham

1. Living away from home means growing up

Living alone is not a piece of cake, as all of the responsibilities are on your shoulders. This includes cooking, doing the laundry, washing dishes, throwing out the trash, getting groceries, and so on.

2. Money is precious

We spend a lot almost every day! Now that you’re responsible for your spending (with the support of your parents, of course), you realise that almost every single day we spend money, so we have to always keep an eye on our budget.

3. The importance of punctuality

This includes being on time for lectures and completing assignments on time, as the weight of a project can drop your grade massively!

4. It can be challenging

University is not like the movies – it is not all about making friends, dating and having fun! Don’t get me wrong, I love Birmingham City University; but it also equals hard work and lots of assessments.

5. Home will always be home

Ever thought that you will never miss school and/or home? Well, that’s not true. We don’t really appreciate what we have until we move away. On the bright side, you get to meet your new family in Birmingham – your classmates and your flatmates!
