Why Birmingham is ideal for international students
BCUIC-post1

1. It’s multicultural

Birmingham is a multicultural city, meaning that people from all over the world are studying or working here! You get to meet people from different cultures and even learn about them. What’s even more interesting is that you can find various cuisines, such as British food, Indian restaurants, Caribbean, Turkish, American, Italian and so much more!

2. It’s inclusive

Everyone here is treated equally, despite your nationality, religion and beliefs. So, wherever you come from, you shouldn’t worry about discrimination or racism. You will be loved and respected for who you are!

3. Amazing education

Accredited courses are offered with tons of support systems! This includes student advisors, student services and of course, your professional lecturers. Speaking of accredited courses, these help students acquire skills needed for their future careers, increases their employability skills and 93% chance of finding a job within six months after graduating. Basically, Birmingham is amazing education-wise with a great reputation. It’s a place where your future dreams can come true!

4. The Students’ Union

The International Students’ Union is here for you! Need friends? Join the social activities provided by the SU and meet others with similar interests. Don’t fret, you won’t feel left out or lonely.

5. Something for everyone

Whether you come from a country with loads of historical monuments, or a luxurious city with lots of malls, you will still find all of that in Birmingham and even more! Just because you moved to another city, it doesn’t mean you have to leave EVERYTHING behind.

Things I never knew about life until I lived in Birmingham
BCUIC-post1

1. Living away from home means growing up

Living alone is not a piece of cake, as all of the responsibilities are on your shoulders. This includes cooking, doing the laundry, washing dishes, throwing out the trash, getting groceries, and so on.

2. Money is precious

We spend a lot almost every day! Now that you’re responsible for your spending (with the support of your parents, of course), you realise that almost every single day we spend money, so we have to always keep an eye on our budget.

3. The importance of punctuality

This includes being on time for lectures and completing assignments on time, as the weight of a project can drop your grade massively!

4. It can be challenging

University is not like the movies – it is not all about making friends, dating and having fun! Don’t get me wrong, I love Birmingham City University; but it also equals hard work and lots of assessments.

5. Home will always be home

Ever thought that you will never miss school and/or home? Well, that’s not true. We don’t really appreciate what we have until we move away. On the bright side, you get to meet your new family in Birmingham – your classmates and your flatmates!
